Court Jester '23
Fired ceramic with matte paint, glitter, and paper accents
This sculptural display mask explores a traditional court jester archetype through a completely experimental hand-coiled process. Moving away from my standard mask-making methods, this piece was built entirely for the intuitive fun of the clay building process without a specific outside story or theatrical production in mind. The hand-sculpted design features a wide, stylized metallic smile beneath an intricate patchwork of textures, including a dark harlequin diamond pattern, speckled yellow details, and sheet music paper accents. Crowned with a classic, three-pointed jester hat finished with a shimmering layer of purple glitter, the work stands as a playful, spontaneous exploration of pure shape, color mixing, and freeform studio experimentation.
