Mom Mask Series

Fired ceramic with glossy glaze

This sculptural display mask completes the contemporary pairing of the classic theatrical comedy and tragedy archetypes, split down the center to reveal two contrasting halves. The left side features a smooth, downturned silhouette finished in a soft lavender glaze, detailed with engraved music notes that double as stylized tears. The right side mirrors this with a highly textured, olive-sage surface covered in heavy raised studs and a distinct crackle pattern. Part of a larger series dedicated to my relationship with my mother—who passed down her lifelong love of theater and storytelling—this non-wearable, functional display mask beautifully translates emotional gravity and performance history into a tactile, sculptural tribute.
